This Sunday the 51st Annual Festival of the Chariots takes place in Golden Gate Park. It’s an annual event celebrating the Ratha Yatra festival which has been performed for thousands of years in Puri, India. Now, major cities throughout the world celebrate this festival.
The day begins with an interactive parade, as people pull three large chariots by ropes through Golden Gate Park. The parade begins at 11 A.M. at JFK and Transverse Drive, and ends at Sharon Meadow around 1 P.M. for the Festival of India. Everyone is invited for a free vegetarian meal, live music, ancient Indian dances, exhibits, books, and more. As many as 3,000 people attend annually.
