On the “Homes for Sale in San Francisco” front, here’s our report for this week, 10/02/16 – 10/08/16:

A few months ago when the British people voted to exit the European Union we wondered how that might impact the U.S. real estate market. We’re now beginning to see the results. According to a study conducted by Inman.com, annual growth in realtor.com listing views by British and German users dropped sharply in July and August, the months following Brexit.

Researchers believe these page views correlate with eventual purchases. The drop in interest is likely due to a reduction in their purchasing power caused by a decrease in the value of their currencies. What’s more, according to the report since a disproportionate amount of international traffic to realtor.com comes from wealthy foreigners, the traffic change suggests the impact will be felt mainly in U.S. luxury markets.

The report suggests the cities most likely to feel this pinch are Los Angeles, New York City, Orlando, Miami, and Tampa – as these are the cities that have evidently been most popular with British and German homebuyers.
