Now that we know Carolina and Denver will be playing in the Super Bowl in two weeks, we can turn our attention to the game we’ve all been waiting for with maybe even greater anticipation – the Golden State Warriors versus the San Antonio Spurs. These two NBA rivals have ridiculously good records – a franchise best 38-6 for the Spurs, and an even better 40-4 for the Warriors. They play at Oracle tonight at 7:30 PM.
The Spurs are a perennial powerhouse. They are the winners of five NBA championships, most recently winning it all in 2014. The Warriors are still new to all of this, winning their first championship in 40 years last year. Experts say San Antonio is the only thing standing between Golden State and a repeat title. That’s what makes this first game of the season between these two teams so intriguing.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is sitting out superstar Tim Duncan, saying he has soreness in his right knee. Warriors Coach Steve Kerr, who once played for the Spurs and is friends with Popovich and Duncan said he understands the thinking, since the player is 57 years old. In reality he is only 39, but the psych games have already begun. Can’t wait for tip off!
